German cardinal Reinhard Marx has declared today that he offered his resignation as archbishop to the pope due to cases of sexual abuse and mismanagement in reworking the past  in the German Catholic Church.  He uttered that church has come to a dead end and wants to make free the way for church to a new beginning. Reinhard Marx (born 21 September 1953) is a German cardinal of the Catholic Church. He serves as the Archbishop of Munich and Freising. Pope Benedict XVI elevated Marx to the cardinalate in a consistory in 2010.

In May 2021 Marx offered his resignation as archbishop over the failure of the Church to deal satisfactorily with sexual abuse.  (Source)
